Apeci

An old school admin. The Apeci is named after him.
Apeci caused The Apeci. Prior to a board upgrade, Apeci fucked it all to hell. He failed to back up the database, and began installing the new board software over the old one. He uploaded the database, but the backup was nonexistent.
Hostgator, Amkon's host at the time, was not properly backing up the database either, and we have been unable to recover the posts lost in The Apeci.
Apeci was both loved and despised during his Amkon tenure. This poster was one of the few that loved him and miss his input. Although he preferred to define himself as a Proto-Libertarian, he was in reality a representative of that rarest of species: the 'Right Wing Jebby (RWJ). And like all intellectually curious RWJs he was brilliant, glib and brutally judgmental. He was also a self-taught tech maven, and during the time of his ascendancy as a quality poster he was a rarity at amkon. His obvious programming abilities were soon recognized by the Admin team and he was elevated to the position of Tech Mod- the position that Packblah now holds at the forum. Unfortunately he was also an inveterate tweaker. The board could always be improved by just one further leap into arcane code revision, thought he. General Striker mused about this dangerous type of obsession and the unintended but inevitable consequences:

Tinker and tweak the database he did. Continually. Until in the spring of 2009 came what the General has described as the GAC- the Great Amkon Colonic- during which almost half of the community's work product was unceremoniously disgorged into the eternal void with one final sweaty peck on the Save key. This database debasement is now popularly know as The Apeci. Oh the humanity!
Members of the Admin team however insist that Apeci rarely "tinkered" with anything and his duties mostly consisted of backing up the forum and basic site maintenance. In Apeci fact was responsible for saving the forum from a serious hacking attempt as his first duty as an adminstrator during the beaver episode.
Clarification on The Apeci
The database backup "program" in the admin control panel was corrupt because it would time out after so long, and not save the entire database.
That was how we were backing up the database at the time.
The database backup "program" in the cpanel was not corrupt, however we had not been backing the forum up that way, hence the loss of posts.
cog may be right that apeci was upgrading the smite software at the time, I don't remember what particular upgrade was going on, but that's the truth.
The ACP backup was corrupt, the cpanel backup (from hostgator) was not.
But since hostgator royally fucked us, and did not help us out in time, the cpanel backed up the corrupted ACP backup we had "rolled back" to. He deleted everything
